The St Kilda Chronicles – Book 1 Escape, is the first of a three-part series about a small group of 11 families who decide to escape what is becoming an increasingly dangerous British mainland and go to live on the remote island of St Kilda, which is located 100 miles off the west coast of Scotland. On the British mainland, overcrowding, disease and death is all around and Bob Armstrong, the leader of the small group, decides that the only way for his family as well as anyone on the other families becoming becoming victims is to escape to a safe sanctuary far away from other people. Billionaires, who are also worried by what is happening are buying up large estates in places like New Zealand as safe sanctuaries but Bob has a different plan. Because St Kilda is relatively unknown, they hope it will be small enough to escape the notice of others who might have similar idea, and because it is located well out in the inhospitable North Atlantic, life there is bound to be hard. As a bonus, guarded as it is by steep cliffs almost all the way around it, St Kilda is also a natural fortress so they all hope life there will at least be bearable. After all, it had been in almost permanent occupation for the previous 4,000 years.
Just getting there is to prove difficult and dangerous but much worse is to follow. The weather, sworn enemies and one particularly difficult but influential islander, who almost sabotages the entire operation, are just some of the difficulties Bob and his group have to face.
